Antique French Victorian 18ct Gold carved star Amethyst Paste Hooked Earrings

Exceptional antique French 18ct Rose and yellow Gold large 20mm (3/4) diameter Amethyst paste Earrings with a carved star motif set with a split Pearl. Hallmarked with the regional French Horse's Head for 18ct Gold (1838 - 1919) and an old heraldic style makers mark including initials. The Earrings are fitted with a simple shepherds crook hook fitting - long and well balanced - extending from a plume of ostrich feathers with hand etched texture. Total length of Earring 32 mm (1 1/4). Diameter of Amethyst Paste 15 mm (5/8).

The Amethyst Pastes are beautifully cut with a deep faceted pavilion which catches light and reflects from below the surface. The Paste is more refractive than a natural amethyst when skilfully cut in this manner. The stones are held by a multi claw gallery of three rows of applied twisted wire.

A plain polished bevel edged frame adds strength to the construction. Very luminous and uplifting - full of Victorian style details. Will be posted in a new small craft storage box for a safe journey.
