Antique Victorian 14k Gold Carved Coral Bacchus Figural Pendant With Drops. This is a wonderful antique pendant, with a well chosen mix of carved salmon coral and yellow gold elements combining in an elegant and beautifully composed vignette. The center of the pendant is a finely carved, high relief Bacchante maiden cameo with long curls on each side of her head and grape leaves and grapes in her hair. The motif is carried above the maiden by a second bunch of grapes and curled grape leaves, and there is a carved flower on top, and a fringe of three cylindrical drops with chunky bands of rope-twisted gold around their centers at the bottom. Each of the six separate components is individually articulated to make the pendant lively, and the assembly is attached to a very sturdy frame of gold bars and jump-rings rather than the often used wire armature. In excellent condition, the gold parts test positive for 14k gold, and the pendant measures 1 7/8-inches long overall and weighs 5.6 grams. Coral of this color comes almost exclusively from the Mediterranean sea.
