Rather magnificent Victorian ring made from solid 18ct yellow gold with a large oval carved cameo set in a decorative mount. The shell/stone is coral pink and has variations of colour from top left to right - I did think at first that it could be coral, but there is a scraping out of the back that would have been done during manufacture that reveals a more shell like texture. The ring is beautiful and very wearable today. Given its size and age, it was probably a man's ring originally, but could be suitable for either gender today. It bears a full hallmark indicating the London assay office, purity of 18ct and the date letter for 1870.Size is R 1/2 US 9. The oval cameo measures 15mm x 11mm. It comes with the antique leather and velvet ring box pictured. I do not know whether this is original to the item but it is of the right period and fits it very well. The box shows a little wear. The ring itself is in excellent order, only the minimum you might expect of light wear to the surface of the cameo.
