Authentic Antique Victorian Cameo Gold Pendant Necklace A beautiful hand engraved leaf vine frames the setting of this "Rebecca at the well" motif shell cameo. The wreath is formed by a delicate twisted wire connecting the tiny hand-engraved leaves.
It is entirely made by hand. A strong twisted ribbon forms the foundation of the setting. Finishing the pendant and giving it a bit of movement is a tiny dimensional acorn.
The setting is 10k gold. The pendant measures 1 5/8" by 7/8" wide and 1/4 deep.
This pendant was originally an antique pin and it was converted to a pendant a long time ago. The evidence is the tiny bit of solder left behind where the pin hinge once was. The motif of this lovely antique cameo is commonly called "Rebecca at the well" and depicts a woman in a garden. It is based on the original Georgian mourning design. Finishing the necklace is the beautiful gold-filled (not solid gold) antique chain that was found with it originally.
The 16 tight curb chain is not as old as the pendant, dating from the 1930s or so based on the design of the catch for the spring clasp. The pendant is estimated to date from the 1890s.
