Carved Shell and 14ct Yellow Gold Cameo Brooch Antique Victorian Circa 1900. A fine and impressive Victorian 14 carat yellow gold, carved shell cameo brooch; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections. This impressive carved shell antique brooch has been crafted in 14 ct yellow gold. The finely carved shell cameo displays a scene of classical Greek mythology, depicting a putto with a lyre above a seated musician playing the aulos, all for the Charities. The scene is further embellished with a Greek urn between the dancers and musician, with a tholos style temple in the background amidst a grass and tree lined terrain.

The rectangular carved shell cameo is claw set in a 14ct yellow gold frame ornamented with an undulating, crimpled border. The Victorian brooch secures to the reverse with a 14ct yellow gold hinged pin and clasp. This antique brooch is hallmarked to the reverse of the frame with the 14 ct gold fineness mark (585) and mark'NA95'. The Charities (or Kharities), also known as the Graces, were three Greek goddesses who symbolised grace, beauty, adornment, joy, mirth, festivity, dance and song. They are typically depicted dancing with their arms linked together. This impressive Victorian brooch is exceptional quality with a fine and impressive carved shell cameo. The fine and impressive 14ct yellow gold frame is an exceptional gauge of gold and in excellent condition with a clear hallmark to the rim.
