A fine quality antique oval shaped devotional carved shell cameo depicting a female saint possibly Mary reading the bible. She is dressed in elegant robes with a surround of palm trees and flowers. Housed in a fine engraved 18ct gold mount with enclosed pinchbeck back. The brooch has a simple C clasp pin fastening with gold safety chain. This is an estate cameo from a single lady owners collection and has been dated to have been made around 1860. Size : 6.3 cm x 5.9 cm.
